Description

Our government client is seeking a special advisor in expertise of Occupational Health and Safety.

Duties

  • Identifies EHS program needs for the NCA, identifies priorities and recommends strategies to address them.
  • Facilitates and guides the implementation of corporate EHS plans, policies and systems and the application of EHS regulatory requirements to PWGSC Area operations.
  • Monitors, evaluates and reports on NCA compliance with federal, provincial and municipal EHS acts, regulations, codes and standards.
  • Plans, organizes and oversees, or personally undertakes, EHS investigations within the NCA.
  • Designs, develops, implements and delivers NCA EHS communications plans and information and training sessions.
  • Participates, as an operational expert, on EHS multi-jurisdictional project teams.
  • Develops and maintains working relations with PWGSC EHS program stakeholders in the NCA.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in administering occupational health and safety (OHS) program activities in an operational work environment, providing advice and guidance to managers/supervisors and employee representatives.
  • Experience in the interpretation and application of federal and provincial OHS regulations, standards and industry codes of practice.
  • Experience in facilitating the resolution of Occupational Health and Safety issues.

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II and its Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the National Joint Council directive governing occupational health and safety.
  • Knowledge of federal policies, directives and procedures governing occupational health and safety.
  • Knowledge of principles of modern Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

Abilities and Skills:
  • Ability to research and analyse data to highlight trends and make recommendations.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex matters related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Ability to establish effective working relations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and present training sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
